Hi fellow forum viewer,
Each repair patient may or may not have extensive scarring in the donor area before coming to our clinic. Old plug procedures and mini grafting sessions in general usually compromises each patient's donor area resources. You will ususally find the "shot gun" scars on these donor areas. We are usually unable the harvest any further grafts as the donor resources have been tapped.
Once CIT repair is accomplished, Dr. Cole will usually require the sutures to be in place for a minimum of four days. In our experience, we virtually see no scarring associated with our repair cases. Patients who do choose repair must truely understand that as you de-bulk the pluggy area, the hair density of the repaired area is a trade-off. Some patients who only want to eliminate the large plugs may need more that one visit.
These unsightly plugs can contain anywhere from 4 to 12 hairs per FU.
The initial appearence of the affected area will appear red immediately post-op and scalp slightly raised. The area may require the patient to apply a concealer to minimize any discoloration of the area where the repair was performed. Patients may see slight pinkness of the area from three to six months and up to a year as the scalp reforms to heal. A disadvantage to this procedure is that often times skin will be affected by the blood flow of the larger plugs being removed. Other treatments are available to help any minor discoloration.
