Strip surgeons have stated that follicular unit extraction was only ideal for patients with very tight or very loose scalps. We see that FUE (follicular unit extraction), like CIT (Cole Isolation Technique) is a minimally invasive method and allows patients to wear a shorter hair style. Our form of FUE has evolved into CIT and is no longer only an option for patients who don’t heal well via strip (FUT), but for those who desire a minimally invasive hair transplant method that bears most natural looking results.

The initial incisions to harvest a strip usually destroy about 5% or more of the surrounding follicles. The photo below shows a scar on the donor from strip (FUT) harvesting. The hair angles normally sweep to one side or the other after the average strip of 1 cm is taken. These skewed hair angles can be caused from suture tension on the tissue.

Below is a recently taken photo of a bad scar that actually shows surrounding hairs growing in upward and downward directions. Sometimes a stip scar heals and contracts due to the patients healing ability, other times because of bad strip surgeons.

My advice is not medical advice

Most guys probably wouldn't do strip if they knew that about 5% of the donor hairs are destroyed. Who would do a strip anyways? I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy because I couldn't have this problem on my conscience, much less on my head!
